Discover the Heartbeat of Local Artistry

Maxine McKellar

I think I have always been a little bit artistic, as I have enjoyed doing crafts and decorating using a wide variety of techniques including painting since mI wqas  a child!  However, it was after my first grandchild was born and as she grew, we spent lots of time drawing and painting together!  After entering my first acrylic painting of my 18-month-old granddaughter in our local Chestermere Fall Fair Ribbon Competition, was when a friend encouraged me to join the Chestermere Fine Art Guild! I continue to paint in acrylic off and on, but for ease of travel (as my husband I spend a few months in Cozumel, Mexico ever winter) I took up watercolours! I love the feeling of letting the water and paint flow creating their magic! The vibrant colors of the underwater world in Cozumel inspired many of my sea life paintings

I have taken several workshops and drop-in sessions over the years but for the most part just dove in and let the fun begin! I do enjoy all the new techniques and mediums coming up with a variety art works!

I’ve had the joy of showcasing my art in many Chestermere Fine Art Guild Art Shows and Sales, which has been especially meaningful since the Guild is such a welcoming community of local artists who encourage and inspire each other! I was very proud to display my work in the local library! There’s something special about having your art become part of the community’s daily life!

What really thrilled me was having one of my paintings hung in the Museo de la Isle de Cozumel for four months! This museum is well-known for celebrating local and international culture, so the opportunity to have my art featured there felt like a real honour! Experiences like these remind me why I love creating – each show and exhibition feels like a celebration of creativity, and grateful to share my art with others!
