Louise Spies

Louise Spies (nee Gagnon) was born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario and has been a Chestermere resident since 2002.

Even as a young girl her deep visual appreciation of nature led her to begin to experiment in creating colourful representations in multiple artistic mediums. Extensive courses with excellent teachers introduced her to many paint mediums; acrylic, watercolour, Batiks, ink, oil, pencil, charcoal, pastel, pencil, silk screening, pottery, scratch art, photography, woodworking and more. As a teen she enrolled and achieved a Basic Art Certificate from the Art Instruction School, Minneapolis.

Over the years she has been a weekend painter when time permitted. With a deep love for art of any kind she took advantage of classes when available, media instruction videos, plein air outings and many more opportunities in all art mediums.

Retiring in 2022 has allowed her spend more time pursuing her passion of art. Her medium of choice being watercolour where she continues to enjoy growth and productivity.

In late 2022 she joined the Chestermere Fine Art Guild and takes great pleasure in meeting up with like minded individuals once a week to paint, exchange ideas and learn together. In May 2023 she participated in her first art show selling several works of art at the Chestermere Fine Art Guild Show and Sale.

Recently she was honoured to have been awarded first place in the Red Ribbon competition in the Arts & Crafts category at the 2023 Chestermere Country Fair.
