Catherine (Cathy) Luby

 I started painting in 2017 when my life became less busy as a result of house downsizing and a more relaxed lifestyle.

I took lessons from several artists, but for the most part, I dove right in and challenged myself to recreate the composition, colours, textures and subjects that moved me. Online tutorials helped a lot! I usually paint with acrylic paint and very recently, I have been trying to build my skills
using watercolour paints.

As well, I enjoy sketching. I find myself painting with a lot of blues and greens. That is probably because of I am a nature lover. I hail from Thunder Bay, Ontario and I return to the area annually for a summer vacation. No doubt that is the source of inspiration for my paintings of marshes, fish, lakes and sunsets that adorn the walls of my brothers’ woodland cabins.

Hikes along the Bruce Trail in Ontario and in the Rockies of Alberta provided inspiration for many a landscape creation.  Having moved many times in my life it was with fresh eyes that “people” caught my attention in the densely populated Toronto area, the quaint Victorian houses motivated me in rural small town Ontario and the sky and mountains awed me in Alberta.

I hope that you enjoy these few samples of my art. If you would like further information, you can contact me through chestermereartguild@gmail.com
